Bilney man bows out at top

An East Bilney Coachworks technician called time on an automotive repair career spanning 50 years.

Keith Evans of East Bilney Coachworks’ paint and body centre in Great Yarmouth started his career in July 1967 as a mechanic before moving on to be a panel technician. Keith was given a fond farewell by his 20 work colleagues and company chairman Colin Joseph Baldwin, who presented him with a golden hammer.

Speaking with the Great Yarmouth Mercury, Keith said he still enjoyed his work but it was ‘hard’. He suggested the biggest changes he had witnessed during his career was adoption of bonding and riveting panels and parts.

Chris Browne, branch manager at East Bilney Coachworks said, ‘I think it is phenomenal to see someone work 50 years in the same trade. Keith has been a real asset to the business and other staff respect him immensely.’

Colin Baldwin, who set up the family-run business in 1975 in East Bilney, said, ‘I feel honoured Keith has carried on with his values with us. We all wish him well for the future.’
