Applications open for RoadSmart ambassador

IAM RoadSmart is inviting applications to become its young driver ambassador, a fully salaried internship that runs from September 2017 to July 2018.

The ambassador will be travelling the country spreading the road safety message and the importance of training beyond the driving test; as well as connecting with younger drivers and riders to find out how they would respond best to safer driving and riding information.

In a promotion called Get In The Driving Seat, IAM RoadSmart is inviting applicants to submit a 500 word document explaining why they feel they should be the charity’s next Younger Driver Ambassador by 9 June. They have the option of also submitting a video of up to two minutes long to support their application.

Once applications have been received, they will be whittled down to a final shortlist.

Those finalists will be invited to IAM RoadSmart’s headquarters in Hertfordshire in early July where they will be asked to convince the judging panel of their capability for the role.

The judging panel is: Nigel Mansell CBE, IAM RoadSmart president; Sarah Sillars OBE, IAM RoadSmart chief executive officer; James Evans, founder of First Car magazine; Shaun Cronin, former police officer and IAM RoadSmart regional service delivery team manager; and Eloise Peabody-Rolf, current IAM RoadSmart younger driver ambassador.

Sarah said, ‘This will be an exciting year for our new Younger Driver Ambassador – this person will be meeting people from all walks of life, challenging those in authority and hopefully opening the eyes of young people into the importance of advanced driving and riding.

‘We truly believe this is an amazing opportunity for one young person, that will look great on the CV and open doors for the future.’
