Uber returns to Spain

Uber’s expansion is continuing apace despite setbacks, with the announcement that it’s launched its first fleet of electric cars in Madrid.
The ride hailing first launched in Spain in 2014 but withdrew from the market after a ruling saying it didn’t comply with the country’s laws and had a competitive advantage.
It returned to the country in April with a service employing only professional drivers, and this latest move is an attempt to use green cars to improve its reputation in an environmentally-aware city.
Carles Lloret, managing director of Uber for southern Europe, said, ‘We want to do things that are in line with what the town hall wants. We would love to see more licenses awarded in the future, perhaps for greener cars so there could be more in circulation.’
