Tesla price hikes due

Tesla is raising the prices of its Model S and X cars ‘by a significant amount’ from tomorrow onwards.

The company says these increases are a result of currency price fluctuations between the pound and the dollar.

A Model S is priced from £57,900 while a Model X costs over £68,000. However, those prices are only valid today, with the hike in prices taking effect from the first of October.

The company has told interested buyers that they can lock down their purchase at current prices with a £2,000 deposit today. Customers will then have a 14-day window to amend specifications.

Tesla sales have stalled in Western Europe this year, falling nearly 25% in the first seven months of 2016 compared to the same period last year. Sales figures of 6,430 are just under 24% lower than the 8,443 units the company moved in western Europe up to July last year.

Globally, sales figures rose 25% in the second quarter of the year to 14,370 units, which was still below its target of 17,000 for the period.
