Spaces available on Volvo apprenticeship

There are still places available on the new Volvo Body and Paint Apprenticeship programme.

The three-year programme begins in July, and is open to apprentices or wannabe technicians throughout Volvo’s UK dealership.

Rob Lineham has been appointed to develop and deliver the programme. He said, ‘This is an important step to ensuring our cars are repaired correctly and that knowledge is retained within the network.

‘It’s also a good opportunity to bring new blood into the industry. A lack of skills is an ongoing situation and this will hopefully help. We’ve got 13 vacancies to fill at the moment. We’re looking for a minimum of 18 starts and will run two group of nine or possible 10. Ideally we’d like to get 22 or 23 recruits, because you do get that drop off.’

The first two years of the course will cover body and paint up to level two, before apprentices select specialist training during their final year.

Rob added, ‘It’s a three-year programme. Level two is multi-skilled, so we’ll end with a more rounded skill level, but on completion of the second year the apprentices will go up to either level three body or paint.’

The first programme launches on 18 July, with the second intake beginning a week later. The first year will comprise seven training blocks either at Volvo’s training partner in Milton Keynes, ITAS, or at its training and development centre in Daventry.

Apprentices will also be expected to complete a number of online modules.

Rob concluded, ‘Brand loyalty is very good within Volvo – customer satisfaction is a key area for us and we have a lot of repeat business.’
