Opel invests in €60m parts centre

GM’s Opel division is building a €60m European spare parts distribution centre in Bochum, Germany, which it aims to have operational by next year.
The 95,000sqm facility is the biggest single investment in spare parts logistics across Opel’s global business and will stock more than 100,000 different part items.
‘Spare parts logistics are one of our key competences,’ said Peter Christian Küspert, Opel’s vice president of sales and aftersales. ‘Ensuring fast and smooth parts supply for Opel drivers is an important component of customer satisfaction.’
GM has also reintegrated the operation of its Opel parts distribution centres (PDCs) at Bochum and Rüsselsheim into the Opel division.
Meanwhile, General Motors is recalling about 200,000 Saab and Saturn cars in the US and Canada to replace the Takata driver’s air bag inflators. The move is part of a broader recall of about 5.4 million vehicles announced last month by US safety regulators.
