Nissan UK profits surge

Nissan UK has reported a 22% jump in pre-tax profits, driven by production from its Sunderland plant.

The company recorded profits of £116.9m in the 12 months to March, despite a dip in revenues and overall production.

Nissan was considering pulling out of Sunderland following the referendum vote in July, but business secretary Greg Clark convinced the manufacturer to remain in the UK after emphasising that the government would seek tariff-free access to the EU for the car industry.
