New van insurer taps into telematics

A new telematics-based insurance company specifically for vans is being launched this month.

Pukka is being set up by CEO of Cheadle-based claims management company Action 365 Sam White, and will be run by 15 permanent employees supported by Action 365’s 140 staff.

Its telematics app product will be distributed via partner brokers already in place, although Sam said Pukka was speak to new brokers who focus on niche business and difficult risk.

Backed by Danish insurer Gefion Insurance, Pukka will operate out of Gibralter and aims to have its first policy sold before the British Insurance Brokers’ Association’s conference.

The business, which aims to develop a profit share incentive for its staff, will look to expand into personal lines motor and also motorbikes if early targets are met.
