Musk: Driving will become a ‘hobby’

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says technology enabling drivers to summon their car from hundreds of miles away is only ‘a couple of years’ away.

He claims that Tesla cars will be able to drive from one side of the country to another, stopping at stations to recharge themselves along the way.

Speaking to the BBC, he said, ‘Ultimately, you’ll be able to summon the car from New York if you’re living in LA and it will drive across the country, charge itself at the various locations and come to you.’

He also claimed that in the not too distant future people will only drive cars themselves for sentimental rather than practical reasons, likening it to people horse riding today.

Meanwhile, Elon also claimed that Apple is definitely developing electric cars, even though the company has not officially said so.

He said, ‘It’s pretty hard to hide something if you hire over a thousand engineers to do it.’
