Motorists pay a heavy Pokemon bill

An Australian insurance company has said Pokémon Go is costing motorists money.

The game has swept the world by storm with 12 million downloads recorded in a single minute soon after launch, but the craze is proving costly with pedestrians walking into roads and drivers distracted behind the wheel.

The fad has apparently caused so many accidents that insurers are now saying anyone playing the game – or using their phones at all – at the time of the incident will not have their policy honoured.

Campbell Fuller, a spokesperson for Understand Insurance, told The Australian, ‘The appeal of marauding across the metropolis hunting down mythical manga monsters may not be apparent to everyone, but the road rules most certainly should be. Comprehensive and third-party property motor insurance policies require policyholders to take reasonable steps to ensure the safety of themselves and their vehicles. That includes obeying the law.’
