Licencecheck urges switch to real-time

Licencecheck has warned companies not using real-time licence checking systems are ‘operating on borrowed time’.

According to DVLA figures, only 6.3% of licence checks for companies by third-party providers between April and December 2015 used the DVLA’s real-time service. This is ahead of traditional overnight licence check services ending on 1 April.

Licencecheck managing director Richard Brown said, ‘With the traditional overnight service ceasing from 1 April, the majority are operating on borrowed time.

‘Companies using an alternative provider might be wise to seek assurances that existing service levels will remain unaffected following retirement of the overnight service.’

The company started using the DVLA’s real-time checking services in February 2015, and accounted for 48% of all real-time checks made in the April-December period. Brown added Licencecheck made it a priority to switch when real-time solutions were launched.

He said, ‘We made it a priority to switch to the new DVLA service when it was first launched and have been far and away the largest user.  As such we have a thoroughly tried-and-tested solution that is reliable and actually delivers what it says on the tin.’
