Hyundai apprenticeship training launched

Hyundai has announced a partnership with Central College Nottingham to launch a five-year apprenticeship training deal.

The agreement has seen Hyundai rent workshop and office space at the College’s Emtec centre in Ruddington, near Nottingham, which is intended to create a regional training facility away from Hyundai’s UK headquarters in High Wycombe.

The target is to boost numbers at the facility to over 210 apprentices over the five years. At present, around 100 apprentices aged 16-22 from dealerships across the country currently come for block training from EMTEC trainers and assessors.

Emtec will focus on producing technicians of the future that will be required to work on products Hyundai develop now and in years to come.

Hyundai recently introduced the world’s first production model Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicle and is also planning to launch the first car in the world to offer separate hybrid, full electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains within one body type.

Central College Principal Malcolm Cowgill said, ‘The College is delighted to have committed to work with a major motor manufacturer in a programme that will create hundreds of new apprenticeships for young people looking for a career in the motor industry.’

Rebecca Hurrell, Academy Manager at Hyundai Motor UK LTD said, ‘I am delighted that Emtec is now providing our Technical, Parts and Customer Service Apprentice Programmes for the Hyundai Network. This means we can deliver training from both our High Wycombe and Nottingham Academies, offering young people industry recognised qualifications and a future career pathway with Hyundai.’

Andy Moore, Emtec Managing Director said, ‘Signing this multi-year contract to manage and deliver the Hyundai National Apprenticeship Programme and adult training from our specialist facilities in Nottingham is fantastic news.

‘Hyundai are at the very forefront of technical innovation with their latest range of vehicles and through this apprenticeship programme, we can jointly offer some of the most exciting technical and non-technical opportunities for young people both locally and across the UK to access a great career with great training whilst getting paid.’
