Honda rated most reliable cars

A survey of over 30,000 European motorists has found that customers rate Honda as the most reliable car brand.

The research by the Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) saw Honda receive a reliability rating of 93/100 and with further 79% of survey respondents saying that they would recommend a Honda vehicle.

The Honda Jazz was rated as the top car in terms of reliability in the “utility” vehicles category. Other Honda models were also highly rated with the Civic, CR-V and Insight, which placed in the top 10 of most reliable cars in their respective categories.

Honda Europe’s senior vice president Phillip Ross said, ‘The results of the survey highlight the importance of the quality commitments Honda has made to its customers. It is important for Honda to ensure that customers can experience the joy of owning a Honda vehicle and enjoy driving them with the peace of mind that the cars are among the least likely to experience breakdowns.’

Other car manufacturers to score highly were Toyota, Dacia and Mazda, while Smart, Land Rover and Alfa Romeo were found to be the most likely to have breakdowns.

Utility cars were found to be the least likely to spend time in a repair shop. The highest rated individual vehicle was the Honda Jazz 1.4, with the Toyota Prius 1.8 M and 1.1 Renault Clio in close succession. The car with the worst score was the Ford Focus 1.6 D.

One in three of the drivers surveyed had a breakdown in the last year and 16% had a  breakdown while driving. The biggest cause was the electrical system, with 19% of breakdowns. The braking system and engine electronics were the next highest.
