Head of VW in America leaves company

The president and chief executive officer of Volkswagen of America has left the company immediately ‘through mutual consent’.

Michael Horn’s departure comes six months after the emissions scandal erupted, which affects 600,000 vehicles in the US and up to 11m worldwide.

The statement made no mention of the scandal, however.

Herbert Diess, chief executive of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said, ‘I want personally to say thank you to Michael Horn for the great work he has done for the brand and with the dealers in the United States.’

US executive Hinrich Woebcken has taken over on an interim basis.
