Fisker to re-enter EV market

According to the BBC, Henrik Fisker, former rival of Tesla, has re-entered the electric car market with the announcement of two new models.

Mr Fisker founded Fisker Automotive in 2007. The company was known for its luxury electric-based vehicles favoured by many high profile celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, who also invested in Fisker.

Of the two new models Mr Fisker has revealed one will be a high-end car and the other a more reasonably priced mass-market model.

Mr Fisker said there new electric cars will have ‘a significantly longer battery life and range than any battery currently on the market.’

He continued, ‘Both the technology and the market are more mature now than when we first started out as pioneers in the electric vehicle industry, and our new vehicle will be the most innovative and cutting-edge electric car ever created.’

Fisker only had one car go into production, the Fisker Karma which was released in 2012 and around 2,000 vehicles were sold. The company also unveiled a number of concept cars including the Fisker Surf and the Fisker Atlantic.

Mr Fisker left the company back in March 2013 and Fisker Automotive filed for bankruptcy owing US taxpayers $139m (£109m). The company’s assets were later sold to Chinese company Wanxiang.
