Cloning devices used to steal cars

Thieves in Scotland have been stealing cars using cloning devices to override vehicles’ computer systems.

There has been a spate of thefts in Falkirk recently, with Ford Focus and Fiesta models particularly targeted.

Officers believe the thieves are overriding the On Board Diagnostic equipment with cloning devices, and have urged drivers to consider using more physical deterrents such as steering wheel locks.

A spokesman said, ‘We appeal to the public to take reasonable precautions to protect your vehicles by considering where you park your vehicle when not in use.

Make use of secure garages or position your other vehicles so as to prevent easy access, consider fitting steering wheel locks and other after-market security devices.’
