Chartwell apprentice tops IMI qualifying

Chartwell panel beater apprentice Shawn Dyson cleaned up at qualifiers for the IMI awards, finishing first out of 300 apprentices from around the country.

Hundreds of apprentices began the qualifying process with an online test, with the top 18 making it through to the final qualifying round. Of these, six won a place in November’s final, which will be held in Milton Keynes.

After three days of competition during which Shawn displayed skills in areas such as welding, metal finishing and strip and fit, he was announced as the overall winner.

The 19-year-old said the experience was a good challenge and had allowed him to build his confidence while also providing him with great opportunities.
