Charity drive at REAL golf day

The 2016 REAL Golf Day was hailed a great success after raising nearly £5,000 for charity.

Held at Saffron Walden, the third Ethan Rees Linwood Memorial Fund’s annual golf day attracted 90 golfers to the north Essex course, many of whom were from the vehicle repair industry.

Bob Linwood, founder of the charity and organiser of the event, said, ‘Of all the charity events we put on, this always is the most poignant as it was a place where Ethan spent so many happy times, learning this great game with his friends. It’s an honour to put the day on for all of my friends, family and business acquaintances and with so many players coming back each year, it’s clearly a fun event for them to get involved with too.’

The industry was represented by teams from Enterprise Rent a Car, PPG, AkzoNobel, Rye Street Group, VRVE, Morelli Group, Anglian ARC Group, and MAK5.

Bob continued, ‘The winner of the individual competition was a very dear friend, Bruce Goddard, who scored 42 points off a handicap of six. That must have been a great round to watch as the course was set up for a big club tournament the following weekend. Bruce’s team was also the main team winner although they just won it on countback against the PPG team, captained by Paul Tranter.’

Following the golf was a dinner and charity auction, which raised £4,900.

Bob said, ‘I can’t thank some very dear friends enough for their generosity and support.’

REAL’s next event is the black-tie REAL Ball, taking place in Saffron Walden on Saturday 22 October.
