BSI: system error to blame

BSI has issued a statement clarifying the price increase for its BS10125 certification and Kitemark licence fees should be no more than £40.

The move comes following the standards institute contacting RMI Bodyshops regarding its report that members had been informed by BSI of a significant cost increase. RMI Bodyshops had stated, ‘The average bodyshop will see an additional cost increase of around £350 a year.’

In its communication, BSI stated that the price increase circulated was incorrect due to a system error, and that the actual price increase should be no more than £40 per business certified to the BS10125 standard.

RMI Bodyshop director Jason Moseley said, ‘If this mistake had been left unchallenged it would have cost BSI certificated bodyshops almost £300K which could have equated to an approximate over charge of almost £250K given the above quoted figure. We applaud BSI for their prompt response and promising to act quickly to correct their error.’
