BMW workers back strike action

BMW workers at five sites in England have voted to strike after the German carmaker announced it would close its final salary pensions scheme.

Workers at Mini and Rolls-Royce plants, in Oxford and Goodwood among other locations, voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action. This is according to the Unite union.

It said that of the more than 4,000 members at the five sites, turnout was 75 per cent with 96 per cent voting in favour.

A statement said, ‘Unite will now be making arrangements to move to a full statutory industrial action ballot which, given the strength of feeling, could result in industrial action in the coming months.’
