BMW plugged into electric market

BMW says that 15% of all its new passenger cars sold are electric vehicles.

That figure holds up at a strong 10% when measuring all BMW brand sales.

While Tesla may be the leader in the electric vehicle market, BMW can consider itself among the leaders among traditional manufacturers, and although its i3 can’t match the range of Tesla, the company is working on it and recently introduced a new higher-density battery, which adds 33 miles of range without any increase in battery size.

It is also working on a new version of the i3 which it claims will offer 50% more battery capacity.

In addition, BMW chief executive has said the company will release its first electric and autonomous car in 2021.

Called the iNext 100, the news was revealed at the company’s celebration of 100 years in business.
