Apple confirms autonomous rumours

Apple has confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in the industry – that it’s developing autonomous car solutions.

Rumours have circulated for years that the tech company was developing a self-driving vehicle, although the company had refused to comment on the speculation.

However, in a letter to US transport regulators, Apple said it was ‘excited about the potential of automated systems in many areas, including transportation.’

Perhaps equally significant, Apple has urged companies in the industry to share data from crashes and near-misses to build a more complete picture and enhance safety.

That raises serious questions about privacy, which Apple believes should be addressed by regulators and privacy experts from outside the industry.
