Allianz launches car-sharing insurance

Allianz Insurance is offering dedicated car-sharing insurance cover after partnering with RideLink, an app which connects vehicle owners with nearby drivers who need a car.

The partnership sees Allianz provide fully comprehensive cover for the duration of the rental, and this coverage extends beyond the UK to include driving throughout the EU. The arrangement also ensures that the owner’s existing insurance and no claims discount are unaffected in the event of an incident during the rental.

Jonathan Dye, head of motor insurance, Allianz said, ‘The sharing economy, and peer-to-peer transport in particular, is growing rapidly and is expected to fundamentally change the way consumers use short-term transport. New, innovative insurance solutions are needed to support this growth and ensure tailored insurance cover is available for the peer-to-peer community.

‘This is a really exciting opportunity for Allianz to be at the forefront of providing innovative insurance solutions for customers in this growth segment.’

RideLink offers drivers an opportunity to generate extra money when their car isn’t being used – which is about 95% of the time. For renters, it offers a wider selection of cars than you would find at a traditional car rental agency, more conveniently located, at a competitive price.

Alexander Stevenson, CEO of RideLink, said, ‘Insurance is key to enabling our service, and Allianz is leading the industry with specialised coverage that considers the many nuances specific to peer-to-peer car rental. Thanks to the geographic reach of the Allianz SE Group, we have also been able to expand our service to Spain and Germany, helping us ensure all our rentals are protected by the same market-leading coverage, whether in the UK or abroad.’
