ABS volume forecast to grow 66%

ABS volume is set to grow by 66% to nearly 119 million units by 2030 – a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.4% – according to just-auto’s QUBE analysts.

Despite being a mature technology with limited opportunities for market penetration expansion, ABS is expected to still grow faster than the expected overall total industry volume (TIV) growth, a CAGR of 2.6%, between 2015 and 2030.

Calum MacRae, just-auto’s director of product development, said, ‘While brake foundation technologies, such as friction materials and calipers, have improved in recent years the real advances in automotive light vehicle braking technology have come from the introduction of electronic controls.

‘Most obviously this can be seen with the auto industry’s widespread adoption of ABS, to a level where penetration of the technology stood at 82% in 2015.’

For electronic stability control (ESC), just-auto’s QUBE analysts see penetration moving from nearly 59% to some 78% by 2030, giving a volume CAGR of 4.5% as over 100 million ESC systems are forecast to be fitted by 2030.

With autonomous emergency braking (AEB), a technology positioned on the autonomous vehicle’s development roadmap, the just-auto analysts see fitment increasing from four per cent globally in 2015 to nearly 18% by 2030. With system volume of 23 million forecast for 2030 this gives the technology a CAGR of 13.4%.
