Xenon HID receives road safety award

The development of the Xenon HID (High Intensity Discharge) vehicle headlamp bulb, which has been responsible for cutting night time accidents on rural roads by more than half, has received a prestigious 2015 Prince Michael International Road Safety Award.

The Award was presented to Philips Automotive Lighting by HRH Prince Michael of Kent GCVO, at an awards lunch held at The Savoy Hotel in London. The Award was accepted by Richard Armstrong, Katarina Hartman and Stefan Larsson.

The company has been at the forefront of developing leading edge automotive lighting solutions, including the development of Xenon HID which provide light that is comparable to daylight compared with standard halogen bulbs. Studies have demonstrated that Xenon lighting helps drivers to concentrate on the road and to distinguish obstacles and road signs much faster than traditional lamps. The result is safer driving in all conditions.

Commenting on the award Richard Armstrong, UK business development manager, Philips Automotive Lighting said, ‘On behalf of my company I am delighted to accept this important road safety award from His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent. I know that my colleagues and engineers will take great pride in the fact that our Xenon HID bulb technology has been internationally recognised for its proven contribution to preventing road accidents and saving lives.’
