VMs see surge in sales

Following the news that nearly half a million cars were registered in March, a number of vehicle manufacturers are today reporting their best-ever March sales.

Renault UK car sales in March were up 15% on 2014 reaching their highest level since March 2010 according to official figures released today from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Sales of 15,868 cars in the month resulted in a year-to-date first quarter performance of 20,593 Renault cars – the best start to the year for the French car brand in five years and 16.6% up on the first three months of 2014. Renault car market share in March stood at 3.2 per cent – up 0.25 percentage points on March 2014.

After record-breaking sales in 2014, Dacia’s popularity in the UK also continues to grow as the car brand posted first quarter sales of 7,524 vehicles – up 10.3% on last year and again outpacing the growing car market which rose by 6.7 per cent.

Dacia recorded 5,335 new vehicle sales in the UK according to official figures from the SMMT out today, representing a market share for the month of 1.1 per cent. Market share for the first three months of 2015 stood at one per cent.

With 15,017 cars delivered to UK motorists in March, Kia Motors (UK) has too recorded its best ever one-month sales figure.

Kia also set a new first-quarter record with 22,265 sold in the first three months – compared to 21,608 in 2014 – a three per cent increase. In March last year Kia delivered 14,787 cars to customers – this year’s March total represented a 1.5 per cent increase.

Led by Sportage, with 4,307 units sold, Kia’s range continued to build its growing appeal with retail customers whilst maintaining a solid performance amongst fleet buyers during the month. Picanto attracted 2,934 buyers during March and the brand’s top five performers list was completed by Rio with 2,556 sales, cee’d with 2,178 units delivered and Venga with 1,287 deliveries.

And, today, Mitsubishi Motors (UK) reached another significant achievement as the SMMT figures confirm that the Japanese brand’s passenger car sales have increased 141% on the last fiscal year, meaning that March is the company’s most successful since the company was founded in 1974.
