Opus drives fleet safety

Opus International Consultants has partnered with FMG, to introduce a full risk management programme for its fleet of cars and LCV’s.

Opus turned to FMG, one of the UK’s largest independent fleet incident prevention specialist, to provide a bespoke incident reduction programme for their multiple-driver vehicles, in order to optimise driver safety, prevent incident frequency and costs and reduce fuel spend.

The new contract includes the implementation of FMG’s Ingenium Dynamics driver behaviour telemetry and a suite of risk reduction services including driver licence checking, on-road driver training and online assessments; coupled with an end-to-end incident management service, to provide vital support when incidents do occur.

Derek Gibby, UK financial director for Opus said, ‘Opus manage a fleet of vehicles in support of various public and private sector contracts. We were looking for a partner to help us to reduce our fleet costs in the best possible way, by preventing incidents from happening in the first place. FMG were the natural choice as their ‘prevention better than cure’ strategy struck a chord with us.’

Ingenium Dynamics improves driver behaviour by monitoring the way in which a vehicle is being driven and translating journey data into a simple ‘dashboard’. This allows drivers and fleet managers to monitor vehicle and driver performance through driver behaviour reporting, vehicle tracking and incident and fault alerts. Where Opus’ vehicles have multiple drivers, each driver is issued with a fob to activate ID when driving the vehicle, so that their driving profile can be accurately recorded and monitored.

Harvey Stead, commercial director at FMG said, ‘The diverse nature of Opus’ fleet enables us to demonstrate the ultimate level of flexibility FMG’s risk management programme allows. Whilst many risk products can appear similar from an operational perspective, the real differentiator with FMG’s solution is the way in which it lowers risk by assessing driver behaviour and providing feedback and assistance based on individual drivers’ characteristics, regardless of different drivers using the same vehicle.’
