Motorists unwittingly driving illegally

A staggering 1.5 million motorists in the UK are unwittingly, driving illegally as their vehicles have not got a valid MOT.

Motoring.co.uk has undertaken a survey of 20,000 motorists and the results have given dramatic figures. With this snapshot of the population, 1,663 motorists have not got a valid MOT for their vehicle. That means on average 5.1 per cent of all motorists in the UK do not have a valid MOT.

Across the UK, this equates to 1.5 million cars – an average MOT costs £54.85 meaning the UK government is missing out around £16.5 million that could be claimed from the VAT from the MOT inspection.  This does not only mean that on average 1.5 million cars are potentially unfit for public roads, it also means that just as many insurance policies could be void.

It is a worrying sign that so many vehicles have not got a valid MOT, however, this could all be solved by registering with Motoring.co.uk – the motoring website aims to arm the consumer with the tools to make the car-owning experience an enjoyable one.

Terry Hogan, co-Founder and director said, ‘Our survey has revealed astounding figures surrounding the MOT inspection. But we are here to lend a helping hand to busy motorists. Our MyMotoring hub allows users to log their car details and sends out timely reminders when their MOT or road tax is due.’

‘The revamped site means everything is in the one place – the journey is a lot better making the user experience easier for those engaged in the new car market. Motoring.co.uk has been helping millions of motorists choose better for over eight years and our selection of tools gives much more depth to the website. It really is a one-stop shop for motorists.’
