Is JCC’s Ryan Jones World class?

The 43rd WorldSkills competition will take place at Anhembi Parque, Sao Paulo, Brazil from 11 to 16 August 2015.

Occurring every two years, it is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world. Competitors represent the best of their peers and are selected from WorldSkill’s Member countries and regions. They will demonstrate technical abilities both individually and collectively to execute specific tasks for which they study and will perform in the future.

Covering a whole plethora of skills and careers ranging from Beauty Therapy to Health and Social Care, Joinery to Visual Merchandising and Window Dressing and Automotive Body Repair to Landscape Gardening, to name but a few, the list is endless. The competition is intended for those currently studying towards or having recently completed at S/NVQ level 3 in their chosen vocation, and who have received a nomination from their college or training provider and their employer, if employed.

Ryan Jones, an apprentice panel technician from Just Car Clinic Hinckley, has just finished in the final competition before the Team Selection announcement on 2 June, if selected he’ll represent the UK in the Brazil finals.

Ryan is competing in the Automotive Body Repair category and has been put through his paces and scored on the following tasks and skills: –
•    Brazing and Welding
•    Metal Repair Techniques
•    Panel Fill Procedures
•    Whole Panel Replacement
•    Part Panel Replacement
•    Vehicle Realignment
•    Bonding and Riveting Procedures

Ryan, who is completing his NVQ through EMTEC, Central College Nottingham has been guided and mentored through the competition by Frazer Minskip, the autobody repair training manager and is now waiting with baited breath to find out if he’s made the cut for the Team UK to go on to represent the UK in Brazil in August.

A whole team of people from Just Car Clinics where there supporting Ryan on his final day of the competition including Mick Murray, general manager of the Hinckley site, Dawn Swales, HR and training manager, Barry Whittles, CEO and Ryan’s father, Gavin Jones who himself is a fully qualified panel technician also working at our Hinckley site.

Dawn Swales, HR and training manager said ‘Words really don’t portray just how proud of Ryan we all are.  He has been working extremely hard in this competition and is an absolute credit to us here at Just Car Clinics.  We’ve all got everything crossed for the announcement of his inclusion in the Team UK.’

It is expected that the UK Team will be announced 2 June and everyone is routing for Ryan to be confirmed on the team.
