Golf Day another huge success

The third annual Ethan Rees Linwood Memorial Fund Golf Day recently took place at Saffron Walden Golf Club raising over £3,000 for the charity.

Over 100 players enjoyed a sunny day on the fabulous Saffron Walden course, one of their largest charity events held by the club each year. As well as some great golf, everyone enjoyed an evening meal and a charity auction.

The individual event was won by Mark Law and the team event was one by Team Ethan, comprising Ethan’s dad Bob, his uncle Paul Linwood, John Shaw and Steve Lillywhite. Bob said, ‘Ethan was becoming quite a good golfer and really enjoyed coming down to the club on a Saturday morning to meet his golfing mates and learn from the professionals here. He only ever got to go around the Saffron Walden course a couple of times and each time it was with the four of us, hence the name Team Ethan. We have been trying very hard to win this team event every year and we have finally done it!’

The day was given an extra boost by the involvement of the current world snooker champion, Stuart Bingham. Stuart played in a team with his manager and two other professionals from the world of snooker, Jamie Rous and Patsy Fagan.

Many of the repair industry’s businesses were represented during the day including Rye Street Group, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, PPG, AkzoNobel, Novol, Morelli Group, Station Coachworks, Etouch Solutions, Quest Automotive, Brandon Bodycentre, Pennings, Movac Group, and CCS.

Bob continues, ‘The day was a fantastic success, with players coming from all over the UK to support the charity and to enjoy some great golf. We are about to enter a new phase with the introduction of two new initiatives – REALexperience to help young people understand their potential career choices through a process of exposure to different opportunities and industry sectors and REALfriends, our unique bullying support initiative for local young people – and we wanted to use the opportunity of the Golf Day to gently introduce the charity’s new ‘REAL’ branding and approach. There is so much for us to do over the coming months and this day helped start the new approach perfectly.’
