Exports drive CV production spike

Commercial vehicle production in the UK rose by 24.6% in November according to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The spike was driven by a huge 79.1% jump in production for export, while output for the domestic market remains healthy despite a slight dip during November.

Overall, 88, 214 commercial vehicles have been produced this year, representing a 35.6% increase on 2014 levels.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive said, ‘The recovery in UK CV manufacturing this year has been good to see, with consistently strong growth in almost every month. November’s performance was driven principally by production for export, underlining the importance of the EU as the sector’s key overseas market.’
